Basel is a town on the Rhine in the northwest of Switzerland near the frontiers to France and Germany. The town hall built in the 16th century with its facade made of red sandstone is regarded as the landmark of the medieval historic center around the market place. Basel’s gothic cathedral constructed in the 12th century offers a marvellous view onto the town. In the cathedral you can find the tomb of the Dutch erudite Erasmus who died in Basel in the 16th century. The university of Basel shelters some of his writings.
This traditional tour familiarizes visitors as well as locals with Basel. We accompany you through the picturesque alleys of the historical old town, through snug places and past splendid edifices in an animated and colourful tour.
